Everything You Need to Know AboutChristianity vs Morals

The Bible is not the "Good Book" many commonly view it as. The few pleasant sounding tales taught at sermons are massively overshadowed by disturbingly immoral teachings and claims.

1The Bible is extremely sexist, constantly saying women are inferior and property of men.

creation story is sexist

Sure, Colossians 3 & 1 Peter 3 tell men to love and respect their wives, but they also equate wives to slaves. Stating that they must be submissive to man, and that their husbands are their personal lords. From the start the Bible claims woman was only creates as a companion for man, only because Adam could not find a suitable partner in other animals (Gen 2:20-22) . In Gen 3:16 part of women’s punishment is that her “desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.” Adam was only punished for listening to his wife (Gen 3:17).

bible sexism

Throughout the Bible we are constantly told the following sexist claims…

  • Women must worship man as man is to worship God.
  • Women are weaker than men.
  • Women must be submissive to men.
  • Women are to be silenced.
  • Women are property of men.
  • Girls are less pure than boys.
  • In case you forgot, woman came second was the one was deceived and sinned.

But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.  1 Corinthians 11:3-7 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.  Ephesians 5:22-24 Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear. Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. 1 Peter 3:1-7 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. 1 Timothy 2:11-12 To the woman he said, I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you. Genesis 3:16 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Colossians 3:18 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:17 If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price, and she shall be his wife. If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he must still pay the bride-price for virgins. Exodus 22:16-17 The plunder remaining from the spoils that the soldiers took was 675,000 sheep, 72,000 cattle, 61,000 donkeys and 32,000 women who had never slept with a man. Numbers 31:32-35 When you go to war against your enemies and the LORD your God delivers them into your hands and you take captives, if you notice among the captives a beautiful woman and are attracted to her, you may take her as your wife. Bring her into your home and have her shave her head, trim her nails and put aside the clothes she was wearing when captured. After she has lived in your house and mourned her father and mother for a full month, then you may go to her and be her husband and she shall be your wife. If you are not pleased with her, let her go wherever she wishes. You must not sell her or treat her as a slave, since you have dishonored her. Deuteronomy 21:10-14

2The Bible is pro slavery.

slavery

The Bible only has one rule against slavery, slaves cannot be Israelites. Aside from that one rule, the Bible is very supportive of slavery. Not only does the Bible command the capturing of new slaves but it also lays down guidelines for slave owners, for beating your slaves, and even the rules for selling your own daughter. It continues to show support by telling slaves themselves how to behave, demanding they are to be obedient and fear their masters.

Commanding the capturing of new slaves

When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace. If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you. Deuteronomy 20:10-11 Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly. Leviticus 25:44-46

Rules for beating your slaves

Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property. Exodus 21:20-21 The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. Luke 12:47

Rules for selling your own daughter as a slave

And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do. If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her. And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters. If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish. And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free without money. Exodus 21:7-11

Rules for slaves themselves

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Colossians 3:22 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them. Titus 2:9 Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:18-21 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Ephesians 6:5-6

3The Bible not only supports rape, but encourages the raping women.

rape

The Bible has four rules about rape. 1) If a virgin woman who is pledged to be married is raped in a town, but does not scream, she is to be stoned to death. 2) The rapist should also be stoned to death. Not for raping the woman, but for damaging her fiance’s or husband’s property. 3) If a man rapes a virgin who’s not pledged to be married then he must pay a fine and marry her, for she is considered damaged goods. 4) Said rape victim can never be divorced from her rapist as long as he lives.

women for sale

Since the Bible considers women as simply property of man, God himself has women raped as a means of punishing the men who they belong to. In 2 Samuel 12:11-14 God punishes David by giving his wives to his neighbor to be raped in broad daylight. Isaiah 13:15-18 shares a prophecy telling us that God is going to make the Babylonian men suffer by having their wives raped. And Zechariah 14:1-2 claims there will come a day when God will have all the women of Jerusalem raped.

God deliberately has women raped

A day of the LORD is coming, Jerusalem, when your possessions will be plundered and divided up within your very walls. I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. Zechariah 14:1-2 This is what the LORD says: Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight. 2 Samuel 12:11 Whoever is captured will be thrust through; all who are caught will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives violated [raped]. See, I will stir up against them the Medes, who do not care for silver and have no delight in gold. Their bows will strike down the young men; they will have no mercy on infants, nor will they look with compassion on children. Isaiah 13:15-18

Rules for raping women

If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death-the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you. But if out in the country a man happens to meet a young woman pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die. Do nothing to the woman; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders a neighbor, for the man found the young woman out in the country, and though the betrothed woman screamed, there was no one to rescue her. If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. Deuteronomy 22:23-29

4The Bible uses murder as the solution to almost everything.

bible violence

Sure, one of God’s many commandments says not to murder, but most of the Bible says to murder almost everyone for pretty much anything. It’s likely that the Bible doesn’t see killing in God’s name as “murder”. Leviticus commonly says that when God commands you to murder someone, the blood will be on their hands for sinning, not yours. And God commands us to kill everyone from children who curse at their parents to anyone we even suspect of worshipping another god… and also everyone who lives in the same town as that suspected person.

Murder those of a religion other than yours

Anyone who blasphemes the god of Abraham must be stoned to death.

And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die. 1 Kings 21:10

Kill anyone who makes sacrifices to any god other than the god of Abraham.

He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed. Exodus 22:20

If a person tries to convert you away from the god of Abraham, you must stone them to death.

And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. Deuteronomy 13:10

If a person in another city worships another god you must kill every person and animal in the city, then burn it down.

If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying, Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you; Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword. And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again. Deuteronomy 13:12-16

Kill everyone in distant cities, for they are of other gods and may cause you to sin against your god.

Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations. But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth: But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee: That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 20:15-18

Stone to death anyone amongst you in your city that has worshiped a god other than the god of Abraham.

If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant, And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel: Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die. At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you. Deuteronomy 17:2-7

5The Bible fully supports child abuse, extremely graphic and violent abuse.

child abuse

In Proverbs, we are told to beat our children with a rod, and the books of Leviticus & Deuteronomy tells parents to kill their children if they curse or disobey them. It gets even darker in Leviticus, Jeremiah, and Deuteronomy where we are told that God punishes parents who disobey him by forcing them to eat the flesh of their children. God even orders people to literally rip the unborn out of their pregnant mothers’ stomachs.

Beat your children.

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. Proverbs 23:13 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away. Proverbs 22:15

God will make you eat the flesh off of children, if you don’t obey him.

If in spite of this you still do not listen to me [God] but continue to be hostile toward me, then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over. You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters. Leviticus 26:27-29 I [God] will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh because their enemies will press the siege so hard against them to destroy them. Jeremiah 19:9 The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand, a fierce-looking nation without respect for the old or pity for the young. They will devour the young of your livestock and the crops of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine or olive oil, nor any calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks until you are ruined. They will lay siege to all the cities throughout your land until the high fortified walls in which you trust fall down. They will besiege all the cities throughout the land the LORD your God is giving you. Because of the suffering that your enemy will inflict on you during the siege, you will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the LORD your God has given you. Deuteronomy 28:49-53

Kill your children if they curse or disobey you.

Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death. Because they have cursed their father or mother, their blood will be on their own head. Leviticus 20:9 If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid. Deuteronomy 21:18-21

Slaying the infants at Amalek.

Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys. 1 Samuel 15:3

Children and the unborn will be dashed to pieces at Babylon.

Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives violated. See, I will stir up against them the Medes, who do not care for silver and have no delight in gold. Their bows will strike down the young men; they will have no mercy on infants, nor will they look with compassion on children. Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the pride and glory of the Babylonians, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah. Isaiah 13:16-19

The infants of Samaria shall be dashed in pieces, and the unborn ripped from their mothers.

The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open. Hosea 13:16

religious extremism

6The less religions tends to be the most moral.

Some of the least religious countries are also the most peaceful, have lower crime rates, better social services for the disadvantaged, and contribute more per capita to international aid than a primarily religious country like the USA. Even just in the USA the more religious states – including TN, AR, AL, and OK – have the highest divorce rates. Teen pregnancy, suicide, and alcohol-related traffic fatalities are also higher in states with larger religious populations. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, as of 1997 atheists make up only 0.209% of its prison population. That is a mere 156 out of 74,731 criminals who do not derive their morals from religious beliefs while the rest do.

morals

7The actual source of morality has nothing to do with religion.

We know that, despite what the Bible says, eating the flesh off of children is wrong. We know this because the basics of morality derive from our evolutionary instincts as a community-based species. There are mutual benefits from working together, making it a favorable trait for natural selection. Humans, taking morality one step further, worked out the way we want to live and concluded that we don’t want to be in a society where it is okay to steal or rape. Morality is subjective and constantly improving as we examine the results and determine what causes the least amount of harm to one’s self and others. Some of us are below or above the wave of moral standards but we are all far ahead of our biblical ancestors like Moses and Abraham. The change in our moral standards is driven by improved education and expressed in the news, television, speeches, novels, and judicial reason.

Recap

The moral teachings in the Bible are enough to upset any decent person. If you don’t have a moral objection to the Bible, you clearly have not read it.
